Guelder Rose
PRO Tips
This is one of the standout holes on the course and a great test of both strategy and shot-making. With the green hidden from view from the tee, picking the correct line is crucial.
If you’re a big hitter, taking the more aggressive line to the right of the fairway bunker can set up an excellent angle into the green.
For those who don’t have the distance to take on that line, play safely to the right-hand side of the bunker. Be aware of the covered-over sheugh, which is open at both ends, as a wayward tee shot will leave you with problems.
The pond just short of the green adds another element of risk. Depending on the pin position, you may have no option but to take the shot over the water. Assess the distance carefully and commit to the club you choose—this is not the time for a hesitant swing.
The green is wide but relatively shallow, making distance control particularly important. The sheugh protects the left and rear of the green, while rough guards the right side. The surface slopes from right to left, so take the break into account when choosing your landing area and reading your putt.
This is a classic risk-and-reward hole. Pick your line from the tee, play to your strengths, and respect the hazards around the green. A well-planned approach can set up a great birdie opportunity, but a poor decision can quickly lead to a big number. Commit to your strategy and trust your swing.
